Content Ownership & Distribution Policy

At hardcoredoom.com, our mission is to celebrate and preserve the immense creative legacy of the Doom modding community. We are deeply committed to respecting the intellectual property and creative rights of authors. However, given that Doom's custom content history spans over three decades (and counting), we apply a pragmatic approach to content curation that balances authorial respect with the realities of digital preservation.

We recognize that tracking down authors for projects released during the community's early decades can be exceptionally difficult and, in some cases, particularly with multi-author collaborations or defunct contact information, impossible. Therefore, we operate under a preservationist policy for older content.

Works released in or prior to 2009 are (usually) treated as fair game. We generally consider these eligible for hosting without explicit prior authorization, ensuring they are not lost to time. Original creators are always credited prominently, regardless of the project's age.

We will not host modern works (content released after 2009) unless we have received explicit permission from the creator, or the creator has publicly declared (via readme files or public posts) that their work is free to be redistributed. Even when we have full permission to host a file, we prioritize directing traffic to the creator's preferred platforms.

If you believe your work was posted on the site against your wishes, please contact us at our Discord server to inform us of the issue. We are committed to respecting authorial control and will respond immediately to address your concerns.
